2017 Handicap Final Results

The final events of the 2017 Handicap competition were held at QMSC on 8 March 2018 resulting in the overall handicap championship being won by Etienne Cambier. Etienne was joint winner of the trophy for 2016 along with Pip Bennett so this year Etienne will get to keep the trophy alone.

Otter 1/4 Mile

Otter Mile Report

It was a decidedly grey and drizzly evening for the 2017 edition of the Otter mile, run on Friday 28 July and taking in a pleasant and winding portion of the Thames at Windsor. 13 swimmers braved the conditions, along with an array of supporters. Having taken a boat ride a mile upstream the swimmers made their way back to Windsor leisure centre with various degrees of urgency.

Half-Mile Handicap Report

On Friday 14 July, 34 swimmers and supporters made their way to Henley on Thames for Otter's annual half mile handicap. In perfect conditions, 21 swimmers took to the Thames and glided effortlessly down to the Henley Sailing Club. We were treated to a flying visit from Barbara Woodward, in town for the ambassadors’ conference and, adding weight to the argument that the best way to secure a good handicap is to leave the country for a prolonged period (ambassadorial posting optional), she reigned supreme, winning the JW Rope trophy.

2016 Handicap winners

Congrats to the Otter 2016 Handicap winners Pip Bennet, Etienne Cambier & Joana Sandrin.

There are two overall handicap trophies, one for open water events only and one for all the pool and open water handicap events combined. Pip Bennett and Etienne Cambier were joint winners of the Overall Handicap Points Trophy (George H. Rope Averages Trophy, 1911). And Pip Bennett was back at it again becoming joint winners with Joanna Gauer of the Handicap Points Open Water Trophy,(Frank Sachs Challenge Cup, 1923).

Otter Club Handicap

Now that the summer is feeling well and truly over it is time to kick off the pool handicap events.

Starting with the 150m Freestyle Handicap on Sunday 16 October. This will be held during the normal Sunday session at QMSC, about 45-60 minutes after the start of the session.
